Working Hard on New Authority Sites

Posted by MatthewDC | June 25, 2010.

I know I haven’t been the most active lately. Between school and working a normal job, i’ve been fairly busy. That doesn’t mean I haven’t been doing anything however. I have been hard at work on some authority site development and I think I have a very specific plan moving forward. I have designated some niches that I am very interested in writing about, developed some initial site templates, and I am hard at work on developing my content.

My goal is to get the site fleshed out, lots of great content in place, and then set a bunch more to publish over the next few months, before doing any promotion. That way when I start to promote it, it will already be well on it’s way to building trust with my visitors. Right now I have picked 2 niches specifically, and I had no previous sites in these niches, no established domains, and no backlinks. This will make it interesting to see how the site develops over time and if I can get it ranked. Rather than do keyword research and go about it from a marketing perspective, I just went and chose 2 highly relevant topics that I love and have hundreds of keywords each.

Stay tuned, I will keep everyone posted on whats going on and where I am at.

Installing Disqus deletes your old comments!

Posted by MatthewDC | June 13, 2010.

I like disqus. I noticed it on james site and I like the way it functions and the buttons it adds. But, i don’t know if I like it at the cost of all of our comments. We have amassed some useful comments and having all of those removed is kind of annoying. So I am trying to decide if I should keep disqus and just start over with no comments, or if I should remove it and hope all the comments come back.

Any thoughts?

I get sidetracked…alot..=)

Posted by MatthewDC | June 10, 2010.

Ok, so you have all probably been wondering, where the heck is DC? Well i’m here, I just get easily sidetracked. Between all of the random projects I have going on all over the place, a full time job in the Air Force, School at night.. and family.. I sometimes go a little crazy. So I guess I took some time to go focus on school (this class I am finishing this week was a punk), and now I might be able to focus a little more.

Let me just throw out a quick update.

My earnings for the (5) sites that I originally registered for this project so far in June has been $24.08. My total earnings for May ended up being, $44.20. Suffice it to say, these sites, which I did not develop in my typical fashion (hence why this was a project!), are somewhat lacking. Of course, that could be because I have done absolutely ZERO linking on these sites and have neglected them to the point, that were they a child, they would have been taken away from me long ago! But that isn’t the point.

I promised a post that would get into how I am going to progress moving forward. Well this isn’t that post. This is a precursor post to tell you I am still alive and just offer an update. I haven’t finished my homework for this class yet and refuse to get too sidetracked until I have!

We all know everyone is a bit worried about Mayday, and now Caffeine, and oh yeah, the world is falling apart with sinkholes, flotila raids, earthquakes, rivers of lava, and oil spills! I am taking a step back to breathe at this point, and then I am going to start fresh. I am going to start ONE site, an authority site, that I can put all of my attention in. I think Sara was on the right track, but just had A. the wrong keyword, and B. too much real life to attend to. I’ll update more on that later.

Anyways, i’m alive, im almost done with this wretched class, and then I will fill you guys in on my plans, and try to see where everyone else is putting there efforts.

Earnings Update

Posted by MatthewDC | May 17, 2010.

Hey everyone, I don’t post regularly like Sara, but I wanted to post a quick update on my actual earnings for this project. I have done very little backlinking on most of these sites, but they are starting to earn.

I have used a combination of profile links and BB for these sites rankings. I also finally added 3WayLinks to each one yesterday.

The earnings for the last 7 days are as follows:

May 10th: $1.03

May 11th: $0.47

May 12th: $0.60

May 13th: $0.20

May 14th: $1.99

May 15th: $1.46

May 16th: $2.77 (so far today)

My oDesk VA has posted 4 articles total to article blueprint as well as the BB submissions I mentioned. I am considering having her run 1 article through UAW for each site this week. I am still sitting with only 5 sites at this point.

anyways, just wanted to do a quick update. Thanks for stopping by!

Hyphen Domain and Quick Update

Posted by MatthewDC | May 11, 2010.

I just wanted to post a quick update. I have been working on the side project some of you have subscribed to and have had little time to focus on the original 5 sites I built. However, they are still climbing slowly up the rankings. I am noticing anywhere between 15-30 visits on a couple of the sites daily.

The real reason I wanted to do the update was this, of all of the sites that I built, the hyphenated domain site was the second highest competition and search wise of the keywords I used. So I was interested to see how it would perform. It is now showing in the top 5 for it’s main keyword on Google, and that is from solely utilizing Backlink Booster, OnlyWire, and Blog Blueprint, and 1 backlink from my personal blog network that I built for this project (remember I built 5 blogs simply to build up and use as my own little linking network).

On top of showing in the top 5 (#3 as of this post), it is currently beating out another XFactor type site that is a .net domain. So I don’t think the hyphen is a deal breaker at this point.. the site is only showing 10 backlinks in YSE so it’s not like I just threw 1000 links at it to get the ranking. I will test this again down the road, but I think hyphens may be ok at this point. Just an initial observation, if you have your own hyphenated domains, feel free to post your results in the comments to help add to the data.

Total for this month, the 11 days, I have seen around $5 in adsense earnings for the 5 sites. However, with little to know link work done, and considering I haven’t even thrown up 3WayLinks on them yet, I am surprised they are getting traffic at all haha.

Thanks for stopping by!

Observations & Thoughts on Backlinks (I’m Frustrated!)

Posted by MatthewDC | May 2, 2010.

Ok so I said I would sit down this weekend and digest a lot of numbers, but I am getting seriously discouraged. After spending the last 2 hours sifting through YSE, I am having a horrendous time of locating these BB backlinks. I don’t know if I am just crazy, or if they really aren’t showing up worth a  damn but it has me concerned.

On top of that, some of the ones that DO show up are not loading, they timeout as though the site was taken down. I am not sure exactly what is going on at this point but it has me very frustrated. On top of that, the backlinks don’t show in YSE with the title of the article because of the way they have the blogs set up, so it is very difficult to track down the articles with any certainty if you have a lot of links to the site.

I will tell you what has been surprisingly nice however and that is the High PR Profile backlinks service I’ve been using. I am finding TONs of backlinks from the service, all of which are easy to track because they are using the same username on the profiles, and they seem to be sticking. This method is paying off for sure and I am going to continue testing it farther.

I am actually using it on one of the test sites in the other project, so we will see exactly how that site fares in regards to its profile links. I think you will all be pleasantly surprised by that one.

On the SEO Linkvine front, the articles seem to have stalled. One is sitting at 56 submission and the other at 36. They haven’t moved in 2 days so I am wondering if that is as wide as they will be distributed. The problem with SEO Linkvine is that it submits them to users for the user to approve to have posted to their blog. Well, noone is approving or denying the articles! I have over 200 sitting in a queue waiting to be approved or denied and it has been that way for days now. I am not sure I like that design and I will be continuing to test it with the secret blog on the other project.

Overall, I am a bit discouraged today. The YSE results are confusing me. BB doesn’t appear to be netting as many backlinks as it should, that or they take weeks / months to show up, which isn’t highly encouraging. SEO Linkvine stalled out at a very low distribution number which is somewhat frustrating, but luckily the Profile service is turning out to be a goldmine. So I am very intrigued to watch that develop as I just purchased 400 backlinks for one of my CB sniper sites.

Anyways, today is frustrating and I need to just relax and get my mind off things for a minute. Hope everyone else is having a better weekend!

Thanks for stopping by!

Original Project Update & Discussion

Posted by MatthewDC | May 2, 2010.

Originally my plan was to build various forms of sites in order to actually make money, however, this has turned into another project in which I am testing SEO services FIRST, in order to find the most efficient method of ranking the sites. That is all well and good, but I am forgetting the fact that I SPENT money to build those original sites and need to stay focused on getting them ranked.

See how easy it is to get sidetracked? Don’t get me wrong IM is awesome, it’s like an ultra addictive video game that can make you money!

All that being said, I just wanted to post a quick update.

For starters, I haven’t even loaded 3 Way Links on the original 5 sites yet, that’s how lazy i’ve been. I did do some backlinking using Blog Blueprint and have my VA working on that as well as article blueprint submissions for some of the sites. So far, the rankins are as follows:

Site #1 – 4th Position on Page 1 (This is my hyphenated KW domain!)

Site #2 – 6th on Page 1

Site #3 – 11th

Site #4 – 15th

Site #5 – On vacation in the SAND

(All stats measured with Market Samurai)

The backlinks look like this:

Site #1 – 5

Site #2 – 5

Site #3 – 3

Site #4 – 5

Site #5 – 18

I have a feeling the 18 must have been a little suspicious to Google and that is the reason for the sandbox, but 18 links in a week or so isn’t really that much if you ask me. Kind of strange really. That site was the 3rd site on my High PR Profile backlink service I ordered and so it is getting a specific type of links, that could be the cause as well. These questions are exactly why I am running the other experiment. But anyways, I have made a little bit in adsense on these sites.

Earnings since inception: $3.40

Honestly, that’s not bad considering I have yet to really promote anything and the niches are a little bit higher competition than most. I think the lowest one was 6600. One of the sites in particular is getting a nice little stream of traffic, but it isn’t converting to clicks and i’m confused as to why. My guess is that the ads aren’t compelling enough as it’s an unusual niche.

Anyways, I just wanted do an update on my initial reason for being haha.I will work on the backlinking for those sites hopefully this week and install 3waylinks today if I am lucky.

Thanks for Stopping by!

On a side note….

Anyone live near Denver? I just got orders yesterday to Buckley AFB and I am pretty excited to say the least. I hear Denver is great and I am excited to move. So, anyone from that area?

Join my secret club!

Posted by MatthewDC | May 1, 2010.

For those of you that have been regular readers, this is the project we have been discussing.

I am using an aweber double optin to try to weed out any robots or other random slackers from getting the information.

Sign up on the optin, it will email you the website address for the information and blog I am using for the project.

When you get there, I have 2 posts already up, comment on them with your same name as here so I know who has showed up. Once I get at least James, Sara, Carrie, Kelly or a few of the other names I know, I am going to remove this post and close it up. I want to keep this limited to those we trust and know fairly well. Here is the optin.. (don’t worry, i’m not marketing to this group!)

Quick High PR, SEOLinkvine, & Etc.. update!

Posted by MatthewDC | April 30, 2010.

I just wanted to do a quick update today with some initial things I have noticed while checking my sites today. First off, yesterday I noticed a huge update in YSE that added anywhere from 20-40 links to some of my sites. I am not sure if this was one specific method that finally got listed or if they refreshed one of my blog network sites that I use for ranking or what exactly happened, but it was an interesting development.

What I am thinking may be the cause is my High PR profile creation I have been outsourcing. From my initial look at the backlinks, their are a LOT of profile accounts showing up. To the tune of maybe 40+ now listed in my backlinks for that site. I will be taking a very close and detailed look at that site in particular this weekend to see exactly how many backlinks I am getting from my initial 200 profile purchase so I can give you all some numbers on my return on investment (I think I paid about $30-$40 for 200).

On the SEO LinkVine front, I went and checked within the system for whether or not my articles are getting distributed. Apparently it is taking the system anywhere from 3 days to a week to start distributing once you load up an article. However, the first article I loaded in the system went live on the 26th, and is saying it has been distributed 55 times since then. Those numbers are encouraging if even half of those show up as backlinks. The service is $47 (I got it for $39.95 in the initial 100 beta launch), and works much like any other article spinner system. I will continue to track the results and see how long it takes them to show up in YSE if at all.

And finally….I went ahead and bought 5 new domains. I basically did them all in this format: RedWidgetsA.com, RedWidgetsB.com, C, D, E. They are all using the same keyword which had 1900 exact searches and relatively weak competition on page 1. I am going to use these sites for testing the various services I am a member of to see how the results work. I am considering posting the URL’s so you can all follow along and look at the YSE results as I go. I am going to post on the blogs themselves exactly what I did to each blog on what days, etc, to help organize the whole thing. I will decide this weekend exactly what the plan is but I think I have a good idea in mind of how to progress going forward on the tests.

My biggest issue is, if I post the URL’s, people may end up linking to the site and it will get more difficult to track everything. That being said, I really want those of you that come here to be able to SEE the results and help interpret them in your own eyes. The more people that can look at something the more likely we are to gather worthwhile conclusions and maybe even learn something. =)

Anyways, that’s all for today, stay tuned this weekend for some information, results, and conversations on what’s going on for May.
